We've arrived! Our adventure begins at the palatial Fort Garry Hotel. The Grand Trunk Pacific Railway built the Fort Garry Hotel in 1913 as luxury accommodation for its train passengers. The name came from Upper Fort Garry, which was next door to the hotel.
After gathering in the hotel lobby, we strolled down to the Old Spaghetti Factory to enjoy a fantastic lunch. The room was buzzing with conversation. All of which were suddenly shifted to an uproarious round of applause for our last couple to arrive. We were all relieved when Sue and Coby Cobun joined us, making our group of 19 couples complete.
Waddling back from lunch, we attended orientation. Once there our tour leaders, Jane and Don Jackson, called our meeting into action. Introductions were made, and we all were given an opportunity to share our background, where we were from, past trip and how excited we were to be here. We all enjoyed learning about our fellow travelers, especially names (seeing as we are going to be together for 9 days!). The rest of the afternoon and evening was open so we could explore the city and surroundings on our own.
